WEBSITE 101
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
Many of my clients come to me knowing that the Internet is important to the future of their company, and yet they know little about the Internet, how to create a website, the latest designs, or what can truly be beneficial to their company or organization. If you think you already have it down pat, think again.
My business exists because there are responsible business owners willing to pay for my services in order to accomplish the tasks of maintaining technological advancements, search engine optimization (SEO), servicing the site (and email), protecting it from virus and denial-of-service attacks, and regularly updating their website. Business owners can then concentrate on their unique abilities that have propelled their success in the past with the addition of worry-free website advertising working 24-hours per day, seven days per week.
I typically spend more time on servicing a website than I would working as an employee for another company. The reason is simple. I am sincerely attempting to gather as many clients as possible in order create the best economic value for each dollar spent by my clients. In economic terms, I am reducing the average cost curve (improving technical efficiency) with each new client. I sincerely desire to do the best possible job for my clients for the value of their expense. I analyze each company and their goals in order to reflect a website design appropriate and informative to web viewers, no surprises.
Yet many of my competitors charge for services based solely upon the time they have spent multiplied by the value they have chosen for their time and not what YOU feel the value is worth, or stated another way, they charge more for less services. And with some difficulty, you might find there are amateurs who will charge less than I, however, the value of their services can actually be harmful when prospective customers view your amateur-designed website as an introduction to your company’s performance. Ask yourself, ‘how many websites have turned you off from a company’s products?’
LONG-TERM PROCESS
Please do not harbor unrealistic expectations. The Internet is really no different than opening a brick-and-mortar establishment where simply opening your “doors” is all that is needed to bring in business. I am an expert on this and can help you gain the best foot-hold but don’t expect that your business will expand by simply opening a website. And going to an amateur web designer can actually hurt your company’s search engine ranking, not to mention you can hurt or impair your prospective customer's initial judgment. First impressions are important.
In addition, most of my clients desire search engine optimization as an important part of their website design. I perform this task as a matter of basic performance following Google’s latest search engine guidelines. I am a registered “Webmaster” with Google where we communicate regularly on how to best categorize websites while they feed me accurate data on what people are looking for in the area of your products and services, and how the computerized system views your website allowing me to focus on keywords to improve your rankings with many keywords. It is not an easy process nor can it be accomplished within a few months. Search engine ranking under various keywords other than your specific company name is a long-term process that requires attention each and every month as long as your website exists.
KEEPING VIEWER'S INTEREST
Probably the next most important aspect of website design is retaining the attention of prospective customers long enough to get your unique service or product thoroughly understood by the prospect. Photos and graphics are very important but not all that is needed. There are websites that are graphic-intensive and this hurts most website search engine rankings. So a mid-point between graphic design and textual information is necessary in most cases. The textual information (non-graphical text) is how many search engines best categorize your website.
My ten-year design experience indicates that there are several important points here that include organization, photos, graphics, and focusing on what people are looking for when they find your website. If I openly say anymore than this then I am actually giving my competitors proprietary information. Let’s discuss your needs and desires in private.
